Dr. Tyler J. Harvey, Ed.D.

Some people teach swimming from the pool deck, dry and comfortable, shouting instructions from a safe distance. Dr. Tyler J. Harvey, Ed.D., teaches from the water, right beside you, gasping for air when you do and celebrating when you finally float.

Born in 1991, Dr. Harvey has spent his life in the deep end. As an educator with a Doctorate in Adult Education, he has worked across early childhood, K-12, adult education, sales, and organizational leadership. He serves as Coordinator of Data, Assessment, and Accountability at a community college, helping students navigate their own educational waters. He is also an associate minister at Belview Baptist Church, where he leads Sunday School, directs Vacation Bible School, and serves as President of the Usher Board.

But credentials only tell part of the story. Dr. Harvey writes from the trenches of lived experience. He knows what it feels like to be overlooked, to struggle with self-esteem, to wonder if anyone hears your voice. He has faced unemployment, battled health issues, and stood at the edge of his own deep waters, terrified to jump in. Yet through it all, he discovered that the same Christ who calms storms also teaches us to swim through them.
Today, Dr. Harvey serves on the Alamance County Reentry Steering Committee, helping others transition back into society and find a stable footing. His life is guided by Proverbs 3:5-6, the same scripture that anchors this book.
He is not an expert looking down from the deck. He is a fellow swimmer, reaching back to help you forward.
